Hello, my name is Mrs. Donna Miller and I will be your child’s first grade teacher this year! I am so excited and looking forward to spending time with and educating your child!! This will start my 34th year of teaching. I stayed home with my two boys for 8 years before I started my career. I taught 4th grade for 2 years, kindergarten for 2 years, and have been in first grade for 30, I think!!! LOL!
I have been married to my husband of 43 years, Rick Miller. We own an accounting business, Britton, Kuykendall & Miller CPA’S. We have 2 sons, Colby & Cory Miller . They both went through Weatherford Public Schools both excelling in sports and academics. Colby married Megan Chadwick from Kingfisher and they have my awesome grandson Iker. They own a store downtown, Shop the Lady Luck. They have 1 son, Iker. He will be in second grade this year. Cory married Rebecca Smith from Washington Ok. They have my precious granddaughter Scout. She will be in Kindergarten this year!! Rebecca is Mrs. R. Miller in first grade! Cory teaches at the Middle School and is the head Varsity baseball coach and coaches football. They are expecting my 2nd precious grandson in September. His name will be Bo Blake. My family is very important to me. I just retired from cheer after 23 years to spend more time with my grandkids. My philosophy of teaching is to make it FUN! I’m a hands on teacher and I do expect them to read a lot!! At school and at home! So get ready to read and write the books on a booklist!!! I will send their Journey’s Book home on Monday’s for them to read our story of the week and a spelling list. I will send other little readers home to read also. Spelling test will be on Fridays. I don’t usually send any other homework home!
I asked each of you how your child will be getting home. I will always send your child home the way you told me unless you call the office before 2:00 and they let me know. I don’t mind you texting me or sending a note, but please still call the office also. For your child’s protection, please stay in your car. I will bring them to you. They are not allowed to get off the bench until I have their hands. Our pick-up line is at the Pre-K doors.
Your child’s BLUE FOLDER is very important!! It is to come back DAILY. Please check their folders daily and not let it get too cluttered with old papers.
The remind app is a great way for me to communicate with you! If you are not getting my text, please let me know. Checking their folders for notes is also important.
Being at school on time is very important!! I will start teaching at 8:10 a.m.!! Students can arrive at the cafeteria doors on the south side of Burcham if eating breakfast at 7:30. All other students can come through the main doors no earlier that 7:45! They will come straight to my room. The Tardy bell will ring at 8:10 a.m.! Dismissal will be at 3:05! You may line up in the car line at 3:00, no earlier please. We will get them through the line as fast as we can!! If they are not picked up by 3:15, they will be in the office.
I am looking forward to working together to make this a fantastic year! I know there will be challenges but I have a positive attitude its all going to be ok!! If you ever need me or have a question, please don’t hesitate to ask.
