When asked about my job, my response often is, “I have the best job in the world!” This is something I absolutely believe! Teaching kindergarten music has brought an abiding sense of joy and gratitude to my life.
My name is Mrs. Beth Spena and the path that has brought me to Weatherford has been full of twists and turns. I grew up in Lee’s Summit, MO (just outside of Kansas City, MO), attended college at the University of MO at Kansas City Conservatory of Music and University of Central MO graduating with a BA in music. I have taught in one form or another for 40 years. This has included private piano, childrens choir, and HS and MS choir. I cannot imagine my life without teaching.
I have been blessed to marry the love of my life and best friend, Mark Spena who is an Associate Pastor of Worship and Children at Emmanuel Baptist church. Our daughter, Becca is a SWOSU graduate and our son Greg and his wife Micah graduated from OBU. They have given us one of our greatest blessings, our first grandchild, Jacob Paul Spena!
Since I married Mark we have lived in six different places in MO, OK, NC and KY. One of the advantages of living in a lot places is the different perspective you gain, one of those being the different schools. I am so happy to teach at Burcham Elementary because it is truly one of the best schools anywhere!
A new oppportunity has been added to my life. I am now an adjunct professor at SWOSU and I have the joy and privilege
to work with college students collaborating with them as their accompanist.
My job as kindergarten music teacher is to introduce your students to the wonderful world of music. I am blessed to be a part of your students musical life and I love beginning their musical journey at Burcham Elementary.
